We work with future creatives from lower socioeconomic and diverse
backgrounds. Through our free-to-access training and support
programme they are able to build the experience needed to find
sustainable work within the industry.
Hello! My name is Kai and I have been interning at Bird Lime Media on an ad-hoc basis for over a year now! I had always wanted to get into video production and got in touch when I heard that Bird Lime Media were offering London Living Wage paid internships which is pretty unheard of in an industry which disadvantages so many people trying to break into it.
It has been really fun assisting at shoots and picking up as much information as I can along the way. It’s strange but every job I’ve been on has been simultaneously unique and exactly the same as the one before! While the scene and style of the shoot might change, the technical skills, vision and desire to do the best job carry over.
Right before lockdown, I had started to learn more post-production skills and was meeting with Dawn at a co-working space once a week to work together on editing podcasts and videos. Obviously, that came to a halt when coronavirus hit so it has been a strange adjustment to working remotely together at the same time as learning the ropes! Where I used to tap Dawn on the shoulder when a clip wasn’t pasting on the timeline (wrong track selected, duh), now I send a WhatsApp audio message. There have been some technological mis-haps and bumps along the road but it has been a good learning experience and I think the circumstances have pushed me to do more research to make up for being isolated and it not being as easy to ask for help when I need it.
